Emergency electrical problems we attend

Swiss Electrical provides emergency electrical fault finding and repairs across Northampton and the surrounding Northamptonshire area. We assist homeowners, landlords, letting agents and businesses with urgent electrical problems during evenings, nights and weekends.

Call us if you are experiencing:

  • Complete or partial loss of electricity

  • RCDs, RCBOs or circuit breakers repeatedly tripping

  • Burning smells, smoke, heat or buzzing from electrical equipment

  • Sparking sockets, switches or consumer units

  • Damaged or exposed electrical wiring

  • Faults affecting lighting, heating or essential equipment

  • Electrical problems following a leak, flood or water damage

  • Faulty consumer units and electrical supplies

  • Urgent landlord or commercial electrical faults

If there is smoke, fire or an immediate danger to life, leave the property and call 999. Do not touch damaged equipment or attempt electrical repairs yourself.

Speak directly with a local Northampton electrician

Swiss Electrical is a genuine Northampton-based electrical contractor—not a national booking centre passing jobs to unknown subcontractors.

When you call, you will speak directly with an electrician who can ask questions about the fault, explain current availability and provide an estimated arrival time. We may also advise you whether anything can be safely isolated while you wait.

We support domestic and commercial customers throughout Northamptonshire and are NICEIC registered, fully insured and experienced in electrical inspection, testing and fault finding.

What happens during an emergency visit?

Our first priority is to identify the source of the electrical fault and make the installation safe.

On arrival, we will discuss what happened, inspect the affected equipment and carry out appropriate electrical testing. Once the fault has been located, we will explain what is required and discuss the available repair options with you.

Many electrical faults can be repaired during the initial visit. However, some problems may require replacement components, further investigation or additional remedial work. If a permanent repair cannot reasonably be completed immediately, we may provide a safe temporary solution and a quotation for the remaining work.

Clear emergency electrician pricing

Swiss Electrical does not add a separate fee simply for travelling to your property. Emergency electrical work is charged according to the agreed minimum attendance period, time required on site and any materials used.

We will explain our charging structure before attendance. If further work or replacement equipment is required, this will be discussed with you before additional chargeable work is undertaken.

Emergency electricians for homes, landlords and businesses

Homeowners

Electrical faults can leave part or all of a property without power and may create a serious safety risk. We investigate tripping circuits, damaged accessories, burning smells, consumer-unit faults and other urgent domestic electrical problems.

Landlords and letting agents

We assist landlords and letting agents when tenants report loss of power, tripping electrics, damaged accessories or potentially dangerous electrical faults. We can communicate directly with the responsible person and explain any further remedial work required.

Shops, offices and commercial premises

Loss of electricity can interrupt trading, security systems, lighting and essential equipment. We provide urgent electrical fault finding for shops, offices, facilities managers and other commercial premises across Northamptonshire.

Emergency electrician frequently asked questions

Why does my fuse box keep tripping?

A tripping RCD or circuit breaker normally indicates a fault somewhere on the circuit, connected equipment or electrical installation. Try unplugging appliances only if it is safe to do so. If the protective device continues to trip, contact an electrician rather than repeatedly forcing it back on.

What should I do if I smell electrical burning?

Do not touch the affected equipment. If it is safe and you know how, switch off the affected circuit or the main electrical supply. Leave the property and call 999 if there is smoke, fire or an immediate danger. Otherwise, call us for urgent advice and current availability.

Can you help if my entire property has lost power?

Yes, but first check whether neighbouring properties or street lighting are also affected. A wider power cut may be the responsibility of the electricity network rather than an internal electrical fault. In the UK, you can call 105 to report or check a local power cut.

If only your property is affected, an electrician may be required to investigate the consumer unit, meter supply or electrical installation.

Can every electrical fault be repaired during the first visit?

Not always. Many common faults can be identified and repaired during the initial attendance, but some require specialist parts, access to concealed wiring or further investigation. Our immediate priority is to make the installation safe before explaining the permanent repair options.

Do you charge a separate call-out fee?

We do not add a separate charge simply for travelling to the property. Emergency work is subject to an agreed minimum attendance charge, plus any additional time and materials required. The charging structure will be explained before attendance.

Do you attend rented properties?

Yes. We assist landlords, letting agents and tenants with urgent electrical problems. Responsibility for authorising and paying for work should be agreed with the landlord or managing agent before attendance wherever possible.

How quickly can you attend?

Response times depend on our current location and existing bookings. When you call, we will confirm whether an electrician is available and provide a realistic estimated arrival time.
